A Drive By

The Inspired Room had a fantastic idea for 'Drive Bys: Around the World' which is open to all bloggers who wish to participate. The idea is to enjoy what others love when out and about. I thought that it would be fun to show these homes; each of which I hold a fondness for. Coincidentally they are all for sale. It used to be that I would drive by homes such as these and pine for them, dreaming of all of the ways in which my life would be made perfect by having such a home.

I've always dreamed of owning an old home. I spent the early years of my childhood in old homes. I loved their history and the character as so many people do.

When we were married, Husband had a home that was very well suited to the family that we would be joining together. Then there was a new baby on the way; we would soon have 4 small children and he worked at home! We started an addition.

Our home was designed and the building of arranged by Husband (the same is true for the addition) so it has a history but it’s not old (built in 1989). In the beginning I very much liked this house but also felt like its strong angles and vaulted ceilings would define the interior decor more than I would like. When I mentioned this to someone older and wiser than I, she told me, "This is your home, you do whatever you want, wha
tever you love and it will work." and it does. I love our home for the history and character that we are creating with it and in it.

When I drive by these homes now, I still admire their beauty and know how much potential they have. I see which of their characteristics I might add to my own home, I learn from them and I recognize that I love my home. There's a lot to be said for that.

Yes, I could be quite at home in any of those lovelies!!! I'd be so tempted by the for sale signs...

As beautiful as these wonderful homes are, they are only home because someone lives in them and loves them...good thing to remember with our own homes. It's also wonderful to see the landscaping and the graceful, old trees.

Love the advice that your friend gave to you. I also have a space with angles that are a challenge.

Thank you so much for the tour. I love the houses you have highlighted. One of my favorite activities is looking at houses and imagining what it would be like to own this house or that which is so different from my own basic multi-level:-)
