Next

Next on my list of things to make, a tea length skirt; perfect for a weekend garden party.

Odds and Ends

I love the idea of using a cabinet to house all varieties of odds and ends. Obviously this one is staged but real life can work out just as well if items are accumulated with the intention of creating a literal "Cabinet of Curiosities".

Recomendation

Spent some time at the Berkeley Botanical Gardens today. It's an amazing place. I certainly recommend it.

Doesn't a want become a need if you want it bad enough? The framing on these walls sure feels like a need to me...

Tutorial

This is a great picture tutorial on how to make the most of a small space. There's quite a bit going but it doesn't look crowded. It seems to me that the way in which color is used here is crucial.

Variety

According to my aunt, who is a master gardener, Cecil Bruner is the variety of choice when thinking of planting a climbing rose. I am thinking of doing just that.

Ratios

Nathan Turner has a flair for creating spaces that look like they are ready to be lived in. I love all of the eclectic details and the use of color. It's done in just the right ratio for me; mostly neutral but not so limited.

Wanderlust

Looks like a beautiful place to spend a weekend or an eternity. If I had to guess, I'd say it's a chateau in France surrounded by countryside where bikes are riden more often than cars because no one's in a hurry to get anywhere. I'm no traveler though so it could be anywhere. Any ideas?

Clothing always falls into the category of need though doesn't it? It's basic.

Well Read

Oh to be surrounded by books, that's an idea that I like very much. At the moment most of my books are hidden away on a closet shelf  although many are stacked haphazardly on and around my bedside table so that I might get to them quickly. I seem to always be reading or referencing at least ten books at a time. I can't be cured.

Letter Writers Alliance

A friend of mine moved to Maine at the end of August. She's a long time friend of my sisters and so has always been like part of the family. Over the last few years though it was just she and I in town so we had great visits one on one. Now she's gone and I miss those visits terribly. We decided when she left to correspond in the manner of old fashioned penpal exchanges. That has been great fun. So, when I saw The Letter Writers Alliance at Renegade Craft Fair this weekend, I just had to join. Theirs is "a member based organization dedicated to keeping the art of letter writing alive." Check it out!

Beginnings

I can imagine how I would feel if this place were to be mine. I love the idea of stepping into it just as it is now and imagining all that might happen there. It would be so exciting.

Anticipation

Such a beautiful overflowing garden. I just love it. Our summer garden is really starting to become something. Any time now we'll have more than enough vegetables coming in every day. . . I can hardly wait! Tell me, have you planted anything, how is it coming along?

Happy

Happy 4th. In our home, as it is in many, food is the most important item of any holiday. A blue velvet cake seems so appropriate for today.
