Walls

{Image found at beach bungalow}

I have long halls that would work well with images like these. I'm especially drawn to the those traditional silhouettes in the first photo done in a nontraditional way. It may be best to have them in frames though so that they wouldn't be lost when it came time for an update to the decor.

Update Project Room Redo

Here finally are the during photos or a series of before, during and afters from a room redo in my own home. This is bedroom number 1 of 2 in transition. It belongs to our eldest daughter who has just begun High School. Her loving sister graciously offered to move in with our youngest to give her sister her own room (in hopes that the same will one day be hers). We made use of what we had as well as we could to keep costs down with the exception of a new double bed, we were fairly successful.

Shelves once used above desk are just as functional above the bed, saving mother from having to fill holes and touch up paint. Now they can begin to be filled with fun things like vintage cameras. The original plan was to use fabric from Ikea for the bedding until we came across this pre-fab bedding that Kylie fell in love with, as did I being that it saved me tons of time and effort.

Hideous gold lamps were replace with ones similar in size, shape and style in a better finish,

pink chairs from previous desk set up are now arranged in a mini dr. office set up for visiting with friends along a lack side table which won't be missed from area of the house where it was taken.

We will add more travel type mementos (maybe a silver vintage trophy) to this bookshelf, black 1/2" check gingham curtains in front of the blinds, add a few more things to the wall under the clock and behind the bed and be finished! We (Kylie and I) are very happy with this space and are enjoying the process.

Trophy Trend

Since we're talking about trends, how about trophies?! I for one am absolutely in love with vintage trophies right now and I know I'm not the only one based on the bidding wars for them on ebay. I was able to find an adorable tiny one for our store but as of yet I have not found a great big one for home. I'll probably have to buy a reproduction to hold me over until I find one at a price I can justify.

My favorite reference to trophies right now though is from a commercial for a new show. Man asks woman what she does, she looks at him like he's an ignoramus and says in a duh tone, "I'm a trophy wife." I LOVE that!!

Trends

My first extra credit assignment was to choose two pictures of current interior design trends. As soon as the assignment was given I 'knew' just what I would be using as my examples,
Pottery Barn color and an all white kitchen like this fantastic one recently featured at Colonial East.

Once I was home and ready to get to work on the assignment though I wasn't so sure. What about Natural History art prints, the resurgence of houseplants, garden inspired decor, eco design? The list goes on and on. I did make a decision when it got right down to it.I went with glam kitchens made oh so chic by marble counter tops, checkerboard floors and of course that chandelier.And, really is there a larger trend right now than animal inspired decor, maybe sea inspired? I do love the zebra print and wouldn't mind the wire art piece either.

It's fun to sit back and think about the way I might look back on my current decor choices in another ten years.

Friendly Reminders

Such cute little reminders. I'm going to have to make one for myself. I think I'll let the family chime in and see what message we can come up with for mine. I'm sure that they will have plenty of suggestions and they will be mostly accurate. It will be fun. I even have the perfect frame, a jeweled zebra look.

Simply Brilliant

These rooms from Domino are styled after the architecture and design of architect Josef Hoffmann. I just love all the vibrant color. They announce that their owner is fun, no question about it. And the artwork! Simply enlarged postcards. Such a simple solution.

A New Adventure

The items above are the first items to be listed in my brand new Etsy Store, Two Tall Girls. I have teamed up with a friend, Rebel, who is as into design and all things home decor as I am so it only seems logical that we go into business together. We have been having great fun gathering our items and staging them for photos was a blast! I must admit it was a struggle not to keep anything for myself! In addition to the shop, we will be keeping a blog of our adventures and more design musings as we go along. This is going to be fun.

School Days are Happy Days

Big day tomorrow. I've decided to take some classes towards getting a degree in design. I'll be an old lady there at 32 (nearly 33) but I am looking forward to it.

So, the images for today are from See Jane Work, a site I absolutely love. Shown here are an eco- design calendar by an artist in San Francisco, Cat Seto. It is printed on recycled paper and supported by reclaimed lumber.

I'm a girl who relies heavily on the dictionary whenever spell check is not an option. This Webster's Dictionary is covered in white leather! How's that for placing importance on language?

Lastest Bee Finds

These bee items are certainly making my recent self imposed spending moratorium difficult to abide by. I just keep repeating 'Only necessities, only necessities, only necessities...'

Lots to Say

This month's Country Living Magazine is full of inspiration for great looking walls. The old saying is 'if wall could talk...'.

Walls like these aren't easy to replicate. These were created only after years of distress going all the way back to 1880. Beautiful.

Feeling Like Alice in Wonderland

I'm seeing mushrooms everywhere!

These salt and pepper shakers from
Anthropologie, grace the table of blogger, Sophie, of Breakfast at Anthropologie.

These are the best, they are vintage garden art available right now on Ebay. They are two different pieces each stand 16 inches tall and are 9 inches wide, quite a garden statement.

I've noticed mushrooms sprouting up all over the place and have been surpised when putting together this post that there is so much variety in mushroom themed decor. Even more surprising is how adorable (hate that word in relation to any decor item outside of a nursery) they are while still maintaining quite a bit of sophistication.

Motivation

{Creative Home, Summer 2005}

{Country Living, April 2005}

These rooms are two of my absolute favorites. I love how there is so much going on in each room even though it's a bedroom and so often made to be restful. I rather like the idea of a bedroom being more of a starting place. These rooms would encourage me to get out of bed each morning and get moving.

Weekend Bliss

Worked on the yard this afternoon, spent time with friends this evening. Life is good.

The home of photographer and designer, Victoria Pearson was featured in House Beautiful this month. This outdoor dinning area would be a great place to enjoy friends and the outdoors. If you haven't had a chance to see Pearson's home, take a look, it's fantastic.
