Weekend Update

It was a busy weekend but I'm so happy to say that I squeezed in a few minutes in the yard. Weeding for me, is bliss.

Color Crush

Gold, it's such a life lending color. It's my favorite color at the moment & I think I need a little more of it here.

Just for Fun

I've been working hard gathering information about tents and teepee's. I'd like to put one up a corner of our loft space. It seems like it would be a lot of fun for the kids. They could read or just hang out in it. When they have friends over to stay the night they could "camp out". We have a bunch of national parks posters to go up on the walls in that same space so it really would fit in well but it has to be small (6ft by 3-4ft) and it has to be cute and very inexpensive. I'd really prefer vintage or handmade but I may end up going with a new one just to keep it simple. I am determined. If you have any ideas/suggestions, please share.

One of My Favorite Things

I have many picture books among my favorites. On the sofa table behind our couch sits the Taschen book, A Cabinet of Natural Curiosities. The best thing about it is it's ability to change. Simply turn the pages and the room is instantly improved. During the winter months, snakes and bugs are on display, come summer, we are admiring shells and coral. It's an all season accessory.

Note to Self

This kind of beauty does not happen over night. It is years in the making, one piece at a time.

Things I Want

This shape would never work on me but I do love it.
LARK

Combined

I love this color combination. Yes, I know, it's just black and white, but adding the gold frame and brass nailhead trim makes it so much more.

Field Trip

Need a moment of calm today? I do. Let's take a trip to Oh Sweet Woods, where we'll find a collection of beautifully soothing images to give us a brief mid-week reprieve and even a bit of encouragement.

Making Everyday Beautiful

It's all beautiful; the marble, the paint color, the scale but for me, it's the light fixture that really makes it. Who doesn't want a little glamor in the kitchen?

Penguin Classic

Postcards, a set of 100 beautiful book cover images. Wouldn't that be a lovely gift?

Intruiged

Library as a style, who would have guessed that would be affecting our clothing and interior choices? For me, I think it started with this Anthropologie ad. It's so beautiful and it validated the fact that I had library book inserts in my desk drawer for notes. Just walking into a good library evokes a certain feeling. All of those books, all the colors, the smell, the possibilities. It's really no wonder at all that we're so intrigued.

Golden

It's been too long since I hula-hooped. A golden hula hoop would be such fun. It really is an activity that's fun for ever. One that you forget just how much fun it is until you pick up a child's hoop and show them how to do it and wonder why it's been so long.

A Small Thing

Sometimes it's the small things that make a big difference. We all know this. The small thing I see here is the tassel at the end of the light's pull cord. I saw that and knew instantly that I would find a little bit of happiness in adding a tassel to each of our ceiling fans.

Lately

I've been finding myself drawn to American Indian and motifs (cowboy too). Maybe because Husband watches Bonanza while we eat lunch. Whatever the reason, no matter, it's done. My first *sewing project this semester will be a western style shirt.

*Yes, you are right. I've never followed up here about the Christmas dress. I will. I promise. I have to fix the zipper.

Primarily

Maps are a favorite of mine because of the variety of colors that are used together. When I look at a map, I don't think so much about travel. I mostly just see art. I love the shapes and the lines, even the words are beautiful to me. Of course the location is important to me as well. It's just not primary. A gallery of maps is always in style and I think this vintage map of France would fit in well anywhere.

Today

This is going to be one of those days when I'm constantly reminding myself what day of the week it is. I know because yesterday was the same. The kids had a school holiday so it felt like Saturday all day. So, today. . .

Gingham

I'm still afflicted with a gingham obsession. I'm not sure that there is a cure or that I even want to find one.

Define Need

This chair, in my backyard, would be fantastic. With five more identical beauties all around the table I found for free on the sidewalk! Too bad it's not very likely that same scenario would happen with these.

A Tid Bit

This little bit of vintage utilitarian humor (it puts a smile on my face) can be found at Camp HoBaChee.

Attainable Beauty

Is it nature or nurture to love such spaces? The house where I consider "I grew up in" was old, in a constant state of disrepair and will always be my favorite; the simple complexity that I will try to recreate in my own home for evermore. If it weren't for this childhood home, if I were brought up with newness and elaborate beauty, maybe this would be different but no matter. I'll take a rusty cabinet or roughed in bath surround any day.

Visibility

The idea of being able to look up through the ceiling at the sky in my very own kitchen is very appealing to me. There's so much light and on a rainy day, watching raindrops make their way down, may be even better!

Write On

I'm still in love with chalkboards in bedrooms. I have one in my son's room and a small one next to the bed of our youngest. I love that they can be art and function. In our son's room there is a space/robot theme going on currently so the chalkboard has a huge robot drawn on it. For our youngest, the chalkboard by her bed is a place to remind her of the memorization items she's working on. Lately it's been multiplication tables, many times it's spelling words. The possibilities are endless.
